Ordered beef Manchurian fried rice, extra spicy chilli chicken, a few spring rolls, and chicken pakora. The beef Manchurian fried rice had like 5 pieces of beef in it and I'm not exaggerating. When you pay over $7 for such an item, why are they so stingy on the beef. I basically got rice, stir fried in Manchurian sauce with peas and carrots and 5 PIECES OF SMALL BEEF. Felt ripped off. I guess they wanted a large profit margin on those types of dishes...note to self, stay away from the fried rice and noodles. The chilli chicken was different to say the least. It's been years since I visited this restaurant. I remember when they actually put the food in aluminum containers like other Hakka places. I also remember chilli chicken being not so...cut up into small, popcorn sized pieces. I know smaller the pieces, the faster the cooking but damn, it felt like I was eating popcorn chicken from KFC. Not only that, but the chicken was stale or overly dry and rubbery. I used to eat chilli chicken from here years ago, where the chilli chicken was plump and juicy and one piece was enough to chew at a time. Now, it's stale/rubbery, had to shovel a few pieces just to know it's chicken...still skeptical whether it was chicken or not. The quality of the food has gone down. The spring rolls were oily and 'mutated', meaning upon frying, the inside of the spring roll burst out and instead of replacing with a properly cooked one, they just dumped it into the bag. Upon picking up each spring roll, the oil literally ran down your fingers and the texture of the filling was mushy and oily to say the least. The chicken pakora has a new colour from the time I ordered from here. It's paler and has less of a kick. Maybe they 'improved' the recipe to fit more towards the Caucasian clientele. Again, it's been a while since I ate Hakka food but the standards has gone down for faster cooking and faster service, leading me to believe that whatever is not used from the previous day, is sold to the poor soul who buys from them the next day as the business opens. So note to the wise, being the first group of customers during lunch time is not a good idea if you want something 'fresh' and I use that term lose, because everything tastes edible when it's fried, even stale chicken. Edible, not taste good. Oh, the two ladies that man the front counter need to stop acting like sour, disinterested jerks and actually smile and provide good customer service. The straight faced, pissed off look reminds me of when I visit a Jamaican restaurant. Ladies, be happy, you're making a fortune off of people who don't know what good fine dining food taste like and are therefore relegated to cheap, unhealthy food.
